And Our Host, Artist Mark Canepa

For the last few posts I’ve been introducing you to the awesome artists in our ArtFirst! Holiday Show and Sale. If you missed any, see the links at the end of this post. We’re in our second and final week of the Show, and I have just two more artists for you to meet. First, our host, Mark Canepa. Mark, the resident artist at the Village Shops and Galleries, generously let ArtFirst! show our work alongside his.

Mark is a well-known artist in El Cerrito and throughout California. He specializes in metal art, but excels at any medium he turns his hand to. His work has been shown at many prominent art galleries and he has a large client base that includes many of Hollywood’s  famous musicians, actors and actresses. Mark has also won awards for numerous parade floats in The Tournament of Roses. Click here to see a YouTube video showing some of Mark’s work.

Hard to follow that act, but last up is me! I figure since you read my blog you already know all about me. If not, I’m a nature photographer and mixed-media artist.

I use my images and designs to create a wide range of arts and crafts, some decorative, some useful.

I love to design fabric, which I print on cotton or silk and sew into purses, pillows, vases, bowls, and more.

You can see more of my photos, blended collages and designs  at my website, or click here to see some of my arts and crafts at my Artfire online gallery.

Now that you’ve met all of us, we’d love to meet you! We’re open at Mark’s Village Shops and Galleries, 10330 San Pablo Ave., El Cerrito, from noon to 6, today through Sunday December 2nd.

This is my original post with all of the information about the Show.  Here’s the one about kayla garelick, and Grace and Rachel Taormina.  In this one I introduced you to Jane and Nadine Robbins-Laurent, George McRae and Laurie SternAnd click here to read about Beka Brayer, Holly Wallace, Victoria Veedell, and Julie Long Gallegos.

Artist Talks at the ArtFirst! Holiday Show

Come to our artists’ talks this week at the ArtFirst! Holiday Art Show. I introduced you to daydreaming artist kayla garelick in this post.  Many people wonder how kayla achieves such amazing abstract effects with her photographs.

Here’s your chance to find out! kayla will present a one hour hands-on demonstration and talk on “Through a lens darkly; an artist’s view of photography.” Start times are 3 pm and 5 pm on both Wednesday & Thursday November 28 & 29. See through kayla’s amazing lenses and into the depths of a tiny crystal. kayla writes: “Some spiritualists say you can see your soul when you gaze into the depths of a natural crystal! Perhaps you’ll see your destiny, find your soulmate, or encounter past lives. Or perhaps not, but you will see the beginning of my creative process!”

On Friday November 30th from 4 pm to 5 pm, I’ll speak about selling artwork and crafts online. I’ll share tips and answer your questions about the various venues available to sell online, engaging in social media to promote your arts and crafts, and more.

And on Sunday December 2nd, starting at 1 pm and running throughout the day, you can watch my slideshow “Gardening For Wildlife”, which is a collection of my original nature photographs of local butterflies, birds and other wildlife, and gives examples of the different kinds of plants you can use to attract and nurture them.

Introducing ArtFirst! Bay Area

Let’s put on a show! Do you remember saying that as a kid? Remember the excitement of planning, scurrying around to produce something fun and interesting? Well – I’ve spent many hours this past year with some wonderful local art friends, meeting and plotting, working together to form a group. And I have the pleasure of presenting to you … [drum roll] … ArtFirst! Bay Area.

ArtFirst! We don’t have a formal logo yet, but this is one of my first attempts — (hey, logos are hard).

And we are putting on a show! The inaugural ArtFirst! show will be at the Kensington office of Marvin Gardens Real Estate, 289 Arlington Ave, Kensington, CA. The show will run from this Friday (Oct. 5th) to January 2013. We’re having a reception with wine and snacks this Friday from 5 to 7. If you can’t make it to the reception, please go by to see the show during Marvin Gardens’ business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 to 5, and Saturday 10 to 5.

So who are we? We’re a group of artisans working in very different media – including painting, photo-based art, mixed-media, glasswork, artisan natural perfume, jewelry, soapmaking, acting, vintage-inspired beadwork, and more! I’ll write a post here soon to introduce you to everyone and show you their wonderful work. Our website is under construction, but if you’re on Facebook we’d appreciate your ‘liking’ our brand new fan page. Hope to see many of you at one of our shows!
